About SEKEM

SEKEM is an initiative which research and practice to create a fourfold balanced society in Egypt. it was founded in 1977 by Dr. Ibrahim Abouleish with the vision of sustainable development and giving back to the community. It aims to develop the individual, society and environment through a holistic approach which integrates ecology, economy, societal and cultural life. 

 SEKEM started on an untouched part of the Egyptian desert (70 hectares) 60 km northeast of Cairo. Using Biodynamic agricultural methods, desert land was revitalized and a striving agricultural business developed. Over the years, SEKEM became the umbrella of a multifaceted agro-industrial group of companies and NGOs, including different educational institutions and a Medical Center. Today, SEKEM is regarded as a leading social business worldwide. there are 2000 people working in different institutions. there are 5 different companies and factories provide organic vegetables, food products, herbs, natural medicine and organic cotton garment. and practice a principle of 'Economy of Love', SEKEM medical centre and integrative health centre and schools and vocational training , school of special needs children. Heliopolis University (HU)for Sustainable Development was established in 2012.

Since 2017, we are working on SEKEM Vision goal for 2057 in Egypt, everyday we are engage with many projects to create a sustainable society with international and national partners of Egypt and all over the world
